This month we are honored to have a special guest speaker, Justin Ekuan. The title of his presentation will be ‘Notes of a Coastal Rosarian – Observations and Experiences’. Justin is well known to many rosarians, especially those in the areas north of San Diego. He has been growing roses for forty-five years. He and his wife Lilly reside in a house in Dana Point overlooking the ocean, where they grow some of their roses. Justin grows most of his roses in a vacant lot in San Juan Capistrano. They are currently the longest standing members of the Orange County Rose Society, being members for forty-five years! Justin has been a pathologist for many years and continues to work in that profession on a part-time basis. He is especially well known for his success in grafting roses onto ‘Fortuniana’ as well as ‘Pink Cloud’ rootstock. In fact, he has instructed several SDRS members in the techniques of successfully grafting roses, an important skill as we near the ARS convention rose auction where several varieties of rare and unavailable roses will be offered. Come and hear Justin share his extensive knowledge of growing successful roses with us!
